I never ate Thai food until I was in college. Looking back, I realize how deprived I was to not taste some of the most delicious food until I was almost 20 years old! When I met my husband, who is half Thai, my only experience with Thai food was a not-so-great experience with soggy pad thai. He quickly changed that experience for me when he introduced me to really, really GREAT tasting Thai food. I have been a fan ever since!
My mother-in-law was born in Thailand, and I have been so fortunate to taste the most amazing, authentic, homemade Thai food. The heart and soul that goes into making Thai food is a work of art. The flavor combination is something I crave on a regular basis.
My favorite Thai dishes:
- Som Tum (Papaya Salad): shredded green papayas, tomatoes, and peanuts marinated in a delicious lime, garlic, fish sauce. Mmmm. Serve with sticky rice and this meal is completely perfect.
- Pad See Ew: Sadly, this is not gluten free 😦 I am experimenting with a gluten free version so that I can still enjoy this delicious dish! Flat rice noodles with chicken and broccoli in a delicious garlic/soy sauce.
- Larb Gai: marinated ground chicken with mint leaves, crunchy rice, and lime juice. Serve with sticky rice!
- Massaman Curry: Chicken, potatoes, coconut milk, and peanuts in a curry sauce that makes your mouth water. Serve with steamed rice.
