Essential Oil: a natural oil typically obtained by distillation and having the characteristic fragrance of the plant or other source from which it is extracted.
Essential Oils are all the rage these days…with good reason! Essential Oils have been used for thousands of years in a variety of ways: cosmetics, health, emotional health, and spiritual practices. They are uplifting and powerful, and should be used with caution. The incredible benefits from using essential oils is documented thoroughly. A study done at Baylor University found that the use of Frankincense essential oil “influenced the genes to promote healing.”
I have been using essential oils for the last 2 years and have seen great results from their uplifting, aromatic properties.
My favorite (and most used!) five oils are:
Frankincense, Lavender, Peppermint, Lemon, and Melaleuca.
Essential Oils can be costly and also very potent. When I first started using essential oils, I would not dilute them, and usually apply them directly from the bottle into my hands. After a good friend told me that she always dilutes her essential oils because of the cost and because of the effectiveness, I thought I would give it a try!
I have seen an increased benefit in using homemade essential oil rollerballs! I am using the oils more effectively because I know that the oils are diluted and I have the convenience of having them ready to use at any time! I have seen the same benefit from using them highly diluted as I did when I was applying them directly with no dilution. I am saving money and using them more effectively–win/win!
Here is what you need to make an essential oil rollerball:
- Fractionated Coconut Oil
- Glass rollerball bottles I love the cobalt blue, but they also have amber colored bottles
- Essential Oils (I only use pure essential oils such as DoTerra and Young Living)
- Labels for your finished rollerball!
I don’t use an exact measurement when creating the rollerballs, but I generally fill up the rollerball 3/4 full with fractionated coconut oil and then add 15-25 drops of essential oil. Give it a shake and you’re ready to use your essential oil rollerball!
Don’t forget to label it! 🙂
